Still having problems?

I have PWS installed on a Windows ME Vaio, running a 550+ page asp site. I admit, it took some work, but maybe adding another site about how to do it will help others.

Here's a detailed step-by-step explanation of most people's way. I don't use this, because either I'm paranoid, or .... well, probably just paranoid. Anyhow, I add a third step, just to be safe.

  1. Get the patch
    1. If you have ever seen the MTS can't install error on a 9x box, you need this patch. If you haven't, just get the patch.
    2. Mtssetup.exe is the file. You need to have the PWS install folder on a hard drive. Double click the patch, and tell it to unzip into that folder. Overwrite files. That's it.
    3. See http://support.microsoft.com/support/kb/articles/q246/0/81.asp for details.
  2. Run the First install
    1. Do a custom install of PWS. Uncheck EVERY box.
    2. Check Transaction Server. It will tell you it needs other components. OK. Let it add those.
    3. Run the install. REBOOT NOW.
  3. Run the second install
    1. Use Add/Remove programs. Click add/remove in the PWS install.
    2. Check the Server Extensions box ONLY.
    3. It will, again, need more parts. OK.
    4. Run the install. REBOOT NOW.
  4. Run the third install
    1. Back through Add/Remove.
    2. "Personal Web Server" should be gray checked. Go into that, and add Personal Web Server. World Wide Server will be checked. I don't know about this. I left it.
    3. Add any other components you want.
    4. Run the final install, and reboot.

I guarantee you will be able to use the server with this method.....
