Still having problems?
I have PWS installed on a Windows ME Vaio, running a 550+
page asp site. I admit, it took some work, but maybe adding another site about
how to do it will help others.
Here's a detailed step-by-step explanation of most people's way. I don't use
this, because either I'm paranoid, or .... well, probably just paranoid. Anyhow,
I add a third step, just to be safe.
- Get the patch
- If you have ever seen the MTS can't install error on a 9x box, you
need this patch. If you haven't, just get the patch.
- Mtssetup.exe
is the file. You need to have the PWS install folder on a hard drive.
Double click the patch, and tell it to unzip into that folder. Overwrite
files. That's it.
- See http://support.microsoft.com/support/kb/articles/q246/0/81.asp
for details.
- Run the First install
- Do a custom install of PWS. Uncheck EVERY box.
- Check Transaction Server. It will tell you it needs other components.
OK. Let it add those.
- Run the install. REBOOT NOW.
- Run the second install
- Use Add/Remove programs. Click add/remove in the PWS install.
- Check the Server Extensions box ONLY.
- It will, again, need more parts. OK.
- Run the install. REBOOT NOW.
- Run the third install
- Back through Add/Remove.
- "Personal Web Server" should be gray checked. Go into that,
and add Personal Web Server. World Wide Server will be checked. I don't
know about this. I left it.
- Add any other components you want.
- Run the final install, and reboot.
I guarantee you will be able to use the server with this method.....
